International Guest Speaker

The Griffith Institute for Educational Research is delighted to welcome our first international guest speaker for the year,  Professor Susan James Relly from Oxford University. She will be delivering a webinar on  her latest research project entitled, “Unpacking the tensions between local and national skills policy: employers, Further Education colleges and Local Enterprise Partnerships as collaborative anchors.”

This presentation discusses the inherent tensions which exist in skills policies that aim to combine national economic growth and productivity with localised implementation and programmes of education and training.

Professor James Relly will be talking about how local communities and educational providers can come together to address issues that are faced within those local communities through social partnerships. This work is relevant to many of the issues being addressed currently in Queensland and Australia, associated with school-to-work transitions, post-school pathways and young people’s preferences for university entrance rather than participation in vocational education.
